Bontang, February 29, 2026 — PT Tripatra Engineers and Constructors (TRIPATRA), an engineering-based solutions provider, has supported PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) in completing the Revamping of Ammonia Plant-2 project, as part of the national fertilizer industry revitalization program led by Pupuk Indonesia Group.
The revamp project marks a significant milestone as the first ammonia plant revitalization project of its kind in Indonesia, as well as for TRIPATRA. The project carried a high level of complexity, as it was executed on a facility that has remained operational. The plant, which has been operating since 1984 and is the oldest ammonia plant in Indonesia, serves as one of Pupuk Kaltim’s key production backbones in supporting national fertilizer supply.
President Director & CEO of TRIPATRA, Raymond Naldi Rasfuldi, stated:
"We express our appreciation and gratitude for the trust placed by PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur and PT Pupuk Indonesia in TRIPATRA to support the completion of the Revamping Ammonia Plant-2 project in line with the established targets. TRIPATRA"s involvement in this project reflects our commitment to supporting Pupuk Kaltim in implementing the national fertilizer industry revitalization program to strengthen food security. Through the implementation of integrated engineering solutions that enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions with more environmentally friendly technologies, we also contribute to the Government of Indonesia’s agenda toward achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060. At every stage of the project, we consistently prioritized safety and quality, as reflected in the achievement of more than 1.8 million safe working hours without a Lost Time Injury as of December 2025."
The plant revamp aims to improve production efficiency while reducing gas consumption, resulting in lower carbon emissions. Through the Revamping Ammonia Plant-2 project, energy efficiency has been enhanced by reducing gas consumption by up to 4 MMBtu per ton of ammonia — more than a 10% improvement compared to previous conditions. The project also includes the implementation of a digital-based Distributed Control System (DCS), improving process control accuracy and operational reliability.
Overall, the revitalization is projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 110,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year and support fertilizer production cost efficiency. This initiative contributes to the sustainability of national fertilizer supply and reinforces Indonesia’s food security.
In his remarks during the inauguration of the Revamping Ammonia Plant-2, President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Rahmad Pribadi, emphasized that the project forms part of a strategic initiative to revitalize the national fertilizer industry, improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen food security. He explained that the revamp was undertaken to enhance production quality while aligning with advancements in environmentally friendly technologies, making production processes more energy-efficient, low-emission, and competitive. He also highlighted that the project was executed by a local contractor, TRIPATRA, with the involvement of local workforce.
With over 50 years of industry experience, TRIPATRA continues to transform and adapt to deliver comprehensive engineering-based solutions. The company has introduced several new business units, including asset solutions focused on maintenance and productivity enhancement of facilities, as well as procurement solutions, positioning TRIPATRA as a trusted partner in sourcing resources and materials required for project development
